RiverRide 100 is the 2nd Annual Fundraiser
On Saturday, October 18, five friends will be riding a more than 100-?mile stretch of the Great Allegheny Passage from Rockwood, Pa., to the Point in downtown Pittsburgh in one day to raise awareness and money for the Arthritis Foundation.
Last year, a group of bike riders traveled from Pittsburgh to Washington D.C. over five days and raised more than $6,000 in just two weeks. This year, the ride is being sponsored by Krakoff Communications, Inc. and Steelcoast creative, whose founders Jeff Krakoff and Scott Bowlin respectively, are participating in the ride.
“Last year, we achieved our riding challenge and raised a lot of money for a great cause,” said Jeff Krakoff, President of Krakoff Communications. “This year, we want to take it to the next level and have branded the event RiverRide100 because of this year’s distance and the fact we will follow the Casselman, Youghiogheny and Monongahela rivers to the confluence where the Monongahela and Allegheny rivers join to form the Ohio River.”
He added, “Scott and I work closely on branding and marketing for clients and were excited to develop this new branding and the communications tools to support it. We both have a passion for biking, as do the rest of our team, and wanted to more clearly communicate via our website and social media what this ride is all about.”
Krakoff, 50, was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis two decades ago, and fellow rider Pete Chiste, 56, has osteoarthritis in his knee. Both agree that bike riding has really been a boost both physically and also emotionally. The other three riders are also very active people who have their share of injuries, aches and pains, and are candidates for arthritis.
This year’s team includes Jeff Krakoff and Vic Walczak, Upper St. Clair; Scott Bowlin, Mt. Lebanon; Pete Chiste, Peters Township; and Craig Hoffman, Bethel Park.
Arthritis affects one in every five adults and 300,000 children, and is the leading cause of disability in the United States.
