April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month

Child abuse is a hidden, quiet crime…learn how to become an active bystander.  The Crisis Shelter of Lawrence County will host a public awareness and social engagement campaign, Believe Me When I Tell, during the month of April which is Sexual Assault Awareness Month.  The goal of the month long campaign is to shine a light on the issue through awareness, intervention initiatives, and an interactive victim and community art project.  Join us in our latest awareness project – a texting campaign.  Text BELIEVE to 94253 to get a short awareness message each day during the month of April. One in four girls and one in six boys will be sexually assaulted by the time they reach 18 years of age. Decide to make a difference and keep the children of Lawrence County safe by taking a stand against child abuse.  Events are listed on our website, www.crisisshelter.org under Believe Me When I Tell. The Crisis Shelter of Lawrence County acts as the community’s response to violence and abuse, offering comprehensive services to victims of domestic violence, sexual assault and other serious crimes, along with prevention education and intervention training activities to school students, community members and professionals. The agency offers a secure, dignified emergency shelter where healing can begin and hope can be restored.
