What Are the OCD Signs And Symptoms

Once an individual is under Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder, he or she may experience and suffer some or all of its signs and symptoms. OCD is an anxiety disorder where an individual has unreasonable and extreme fears, doubts and thoughts. Obsession is defined to be as the thoughts, inclinations and desires that are recurring in one’s mind. Symptoms of OCD include doubts whether appliances were turned off, doors were locked or faucets were turned off. Others have the fear of being contaminated with dirt which make them too much conscious of sanitation. Some have recurring thoughts or bad images such as accidents or pornography. Others experience too much stress when things are disorganized and at times have negative feelings or emotions. They also tend to be aggressive. The symptoms mentioned above produce negative effect among OCD patients. Because it mainly affects the emotion if the patients, it result to unhealthy lifestyle. It brings problems in relationships because of too much fears and unnecessary thoughts. At the same time, it affects one’s career life because of the stress it causes making one ineffective. Compulsion on the other hand is characterized by a behavior whereby there is an urge to execute or do things repeatedly. These behaviors reduce to the reduction of anxiety experienced in obsession. Signs and symptoms observed and experienced when having compulsions are counting numbers over and over again, excessive washing of the hands that causes it to be wounded or lacerated, arranging things in the same manner, demanding of reassurances and the like. They are also afraid of committing mistakes because they want things to be perfect and are fond of collecting the so-called junks like old newspapers and empty bottles. Symptoms eventually come in progress. They vary on ones lifestyle and on how they deal with the disorder. It is considered to be a lifelong disease. Keep in mind, that if these obsessions and compulsions are already getting hold of the patients system and affecting their lifestyle because this may result to too much stress and embarrassment. It is a serious disease that must not be taken for granted or laughed at only; therefore, physician or psychiatrist must be consulted. A supportive family is very important for the recovery of the patient. So as the proper treatment that is applicable and suited to different cases and to different patients of OCD could help them to attain a better condition. There should be an interrelated assistance from both doctors, patients and family members to have a positive result of cure.
