Pizza Joe’s Sponsors the Second Annual HEROES4 Heroes Pizza-Eating Contest to Support the Hero Program

Beaver County’s Police, Fire Departments and emergency First-Responders are joining forces for a second year by entering into a friendly pizza-eating competition to raise money for the HERO program, a local charity supporting the needs of terminally ill children.

The event, which raised $7,000 last year, and crowned its first victor – the Beaver County Jail, is open to the public, and will take place on Friday, July 27th at 6:15 PM at the Brady’s Run Lodge. Guests are encouraged to come and cheer on the competitors.

Sponsored by Pizza Joe’s, through their generous donation of all the pizza for the contest, the evening will also feature State Representative Jim Christiana, a committed supporter of the HERO program.

On site to out-eat the competition, will be teams consisting of local police officers, fire-fighters, EMTs, and support staff from their respective departments.Steve Wetzel, Executive Director of the Hero Program shares, “We are honored to have these local heroes who risk their lives for us every day, come along side these children whose lives are also at risk daily.”

Individual members of each team raises $100 from outside sponsors. All proceeds are given directly to the HERO Program.

Established in 2009, The HERO Program was developed by Wetzel, after watching a student battle cancer and desiring to do more to help him. The organization currently supports ten (10) children and provides basic needs and services such as, but not limited to, financial assistance, vehicles, medical hospital beds, mortgage/rent payments, gas, and food. Currently, there are 34 children on the waiting list for sponsorship in the HERO Program.
