School Works 2013 Briefings and Call to Action

Before you get on that soap box…here’s your chance to get informed and get active. It happens. You’re at a party, cookout or at the park this summer, and someone, maybe you, gets on their soap box about our schools. What are you going to say? What information are you going to cite to make your points? Do you know what’s really going on? Get the facts.  We at A+ Schools know that conversations informed by good research and information can be more constructive and lead to actions we can take to help improve our schools. Our School Works Program this year did more than it ever has before:

  • Approximately 150 volunteers interviewed 49 PPS Principals
  • Leadership Pittsburgh interviewed principals from suburban districts to provide some comparison data
  • Parents from our Parent Nation program, students from TeenBloc and community organizations previewed the information and helped us focus on the critical issues that impact equity and excellence in our schools
  • Parent Nation parents have developed a call to action for us to rally around that will help lead to improvements in PPS schools.

Have I piqued your interest yet? Join us on  Tuesday, June 4 (evening) to get informed.  RSVP today. As a researcher, I am truly humbled by the hard work it takes to make schools work. There’s no magic bullet.  I hope you’ll join us for one of our School Works Briefings and Parent Nation Call to Action.  Ok, I’ll get off my soap box now.
