Rich O’Shea is a 2011 Jefferson Award recipient
Rich O’Shea devotes more than 30 hours per week to help Focus On Renewal (FOR)serve 15,000 people in the Sto-Rox community every year. As a full-service community center, FOR provides a variety of services including legal aid, weekday lunches, activities for senior citizens and a credit union and food bank.
Rich does a little bit of everything for the organization, from acting as a handyman and shoveling snow, to dressing up as Santa Claus at Christmas and serving as FOR’s van driver. He often picks up food donations from local organizations and unloads the deliveries at FOR’s food pantry in McKees Rocks. He also delivers beds, dressers and other furnishings for individuals moving from homeless shelters to apartments.
According to Chris Crytzer, FOR’s grant writer, Rich is always on the move. “I refer to him as ‘Rush Rush Rich’ because he’s often the first person to arrive in the morning – even before employees.” Rich even gets others into the act, too, often bringing his own crew of relatives and friends to lend a hand at FOR.
