Raising Awareness Through Art and Activism

Just Harvest is partnering with two exciting organizations over the next week to engage in awareness-raising through art and good, old-fashioned activism.  We hope that you can attend both events in support of our work on behalf of those affected by hunger and poverty in our region.

Just Harvest to Guest at LILO’s ‘Bon Voyage’ Art Exhibition

When: 5:00 – 9:00 p.m., Friday, April 29

Where: 907 Penn Avenue, Downtown Pittsburgh

What:  “Bon Voyage” is the third and last of the LILO [looking in looking out] trilogy of art projects. LILO’s creative intent is to break down the barriers between art and the audience by engaging the viewer to become part of the process.

The first LILO invited viewers to watch the process of the artist at work in a street level store front window for 72 consecutive hours. The second invited the audience into the art, as they acted as models in a live photo shoot.

Bon Voyage” will engage the audience in an actual gallery show with some very interesting guest performances, blurring the lines between art gallery and performance art. The gallery show will feature work from Sue Israel, Rich Melvin and JC Carter.

LILO has graciously pledged proceeds and donations from this event to Just Harvest and the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank.  Please plan to come out to support the some of the best in local art for a great cause.

In the creative spirit of this event, Just Harvest will have for sale a number of colorful, one-of-a-kind prints created by student participants in the Andy Warhol Museum’s Power Up! program.

When: 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 3 (Early a.m. bus departure from many locations in Pittsburgh)

Where: State Capitol, Harrisburg, PA – See RSVP link for bus departure times and locations.

What: Just Harvest is joining We Are One and the CLEAR (Coalition for Labor Engagement and Accountable Revenues) Coalition for the Rally for a Responsible Budget.

We need all hands on deck to show our support of a balanced approach to the state budget that includes finding efficiencies, smart budget savings and long-term revenue solutions to effectively address Pennsylvania’s budget crisis while preserving the integrity of the public safety net.

Buses will be departing from many locations around the city, and the trip is free of charge.  You will have an hour in Harrisburg before and after the rally to stop by your legislator’s office and let him/her know that you demand a fair budget!
