Local 16-year Old Entrepreneur Needs Your Vote for National Competition

At 9 years of age, Amber Liggett received a balloon kit as a gift. Almost instantly, she became fascinated with the various techniques for creating unique and colorful balloon shapes and animals. Today, she has a thriving business providing balloon creations to entertain people of all ages. She is uniquely skilled in the use of her artistry to educate children about animals. Self-employed since age 13, Amber generates more than $5,000 in annual earnings with a plan to grow her business to pay for college.

Amber is now one of three finalist in the national, 2012 People’s Choice Teenpreneur Awards, sponsored by the Black Enterprise Entrepreneurs Conference and Expo.  To win she must have the most number of votes from supporters around the nation. If selected as the awardee, Amber would receive recognition at the annual conference held in Chicago on May 23-26, 2012.

  • In 2011 Amber earned the first place prize in Entrepreneuring Youth’s annual event, the George W. Tippins Regional Business Plan Competition.
  • On February 26th, Amber was featured on the nationally aired PBS television program, Biz Kid$ an educational television show that teaches financial education and entrepreneurship to a preteen audience.
  • Amber honed her entrepreneurial skills through Entrepreneuring Youth’s program delivered through our partnership with the Franklin Center of Beaver County and the Beaver County Community College.
  • Amber attends Lincoln Park Performing Arts Charter School in Bridgewater, Beaver County.
