PIC to Break Ground for New Building in Lemont Furnace, Pa.

The Private Industry Council of Westmoreland/Fayette, Inc. (PIC), will be breaking ground for a 23,500 square foot facility on Commonwealth Drive in Lemont Furnace at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 13.

The public is invited to attend the ground-breaking ceremony, which will include guest speaker Thomas Williams, USDA Rural Development State Director. Light refreshments will follow at the North Union Recreation Center next door.   C

onstruction is slated to be completed in November. The completed building will include five Head Start classrooms, an Early Head Start socialization area, adult learner classrooms and computer labs.

“This is a tremendous achievement for all of Fayette County,” said Tim Yurcisin, President and CEO of PIC. “We’re in the process of building a state-of-the-art early education facility that will be looked upon as a model from a national perspective.”

The new building will replace currently rented space at a former high school on Coolspring Street in Uniontown. By providing a new facility, PIC will create a place where the whole family has easy access to integrated learning opportunities that span a variety of programs.

“This is an example of our continued commitment to maintain quality in workforce development, adult education and early childhood learning in Fayette County,” said Yurcisin.

The new construction project will help the organization reduce operating costs while creating a nurturing environment that will promote learning at all ages.

PIC is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that has served Fayette County since 1983. Its mission is to build tomorrow’s workforce in southwestern Pennsylvania through early childhood development, employment and training, education and business services. The new facility will serve all three of PIC’s divisions: Early Childhood Development, Education and Workforce Development. www.privateindustrycouncil.com
