Phipps extends hours of Super Natural Exhibit

Since its debut in May, the SUPER. NATURAL. glass art exhibit at Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens has mesmerized thousands of visitors from around the world.  Guests can now see the larger-than-life show in a transformational after-dark experience during SUPER. NATURAL. Nights, as Phipps extends its hours until 11 p.m. every night.

Custom indoor lighting that can only be seen at night brings a dramatic new glow to stunning oversized glass orchids, super-sized pitcher plants, a massive water lily, captivating Venus fly trap and more as the sun sets.  The lighting was designed and installed specifically for the SUPER. NATURAL. exhibit in collaboration with renowned international glass artist Jason Gamrath.  The artist meticulously reviewed each lighting selection and angle to ensure the intricate system showcases every detail of each brilliant glass sculpture at night.

During Chihuly Nights in 2007, Phipps expanded evening hours so that guests could enjoy the Dale Chihuly glass art exhibit at night.  Now, SUPER. NATURAL. Nights bring an entirely new glass art evening experience to Pittsburgh. Guests who have seen SUPER. NATURAL. during the day will want to return in the evening for this unique, contemporary display.

While visiting, guests can also explore an after-hours view of Phipps’ celebrated orchid and desert plant collections, permanent glass installations by Dale Chihuly and Hans Godo Fräbel, and other fun sights as they explore the historic glasshouse.

Phipps was recently named as the “Best Place to Glow in the Dark” in Pittsburgh, encouraging guests to explore Phipps at night to see why.

Select, limited nights when the Conservatory will close at 5 p.m. for private events are noted on Phipps’ website at phipps.conservatory.org.
