Tickets on Sale for NHCO’s 25th Anniversary Dinner

North Hills Community Outreach will hold a 25th anniversary dinner on April 29 at the LeMont on Mt. Washington. The public is invited to attend. The evening kicks off at 5:30 p.m. and tickets are $50 per person. The evening includes a three-course meal, inspiring speakers and more. Sponsorship opportunities are available for businesses and individuals. All proceeds benefit the North Hills Community Outreach Endowment to continue helping neighbors in need for years to come. NHCO Requests Spring Share Donations

North Hills Community Outreach is collecting baskets, candy, granola bars, juice boxes, grocery and department store gift cards and snack-size treats for Spring Share, an NHCO sharing project that will help approximately 500 local families in hardship. Donations will be accepted from Feb. 20 to March 30 on weekdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and on March 10 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at NHCO, 1975 Ferguson Road, in Allison Park. Walk or Run for NHCO!

North Hills Community Outreach is a charity affiliate for the 2012 Pittsburgh Marathon as well as a participating charity in Highmark’s Walk for a Healthy Community. NHCO Launches Car Ready Workshops

North Hills Community Outreach’s Community Auto program now offers “Car Ready” Workshops that focus on car pricing, maintenance and insurance. Workshops will cover preparing for vehicle ownership, maintaining a vehicle after purchase and strategies for your next vehicle purchase. The workshops are open to the public and will be held March 10 at 10 a.m. at NHCO at 1975 Ferguson Road in Allison Park, March 14 at 10 a.m. at Community Auto at 11490 Perry Highway in Pine Township and March 26 at 6 p.m. in NHCO Millvale at 416 Lincoln Ave. To schedule and for more information, call 724-443-8300.

NHCO Garden Organic Seed Drive Underway

Donations of organic, seed packets are being collected for North Hills Community Outreach’s Rosalinda Sauro Sirianni Garden in Bellevue. Fruit, vegetable, greens, herb and flower seeds as well as monetary donations are welcome. All garden produce supports North Hills Community Outreach’s two food pantries. Last year, NHCO’s pantries fed 1,395 families in need. Donations can be dropped off at any NHCO office including 1975 Ferguson Road in Allison Park.

Generosity Footprints

Help North Hills Community Outreach win $10,000 in the first-ever Generosity Footprints, a Facebook-based contest. NHCO is one of only three nonprofit organizations and the only Pittsburgh-area organization selected to participate in the unique, social media event. To help NHCO win, log on to Facebook through April 30 and visit the North Hills Community Outreach page or search for the Generosity Footprints application. Log any charitable activities for friends, family, charities and even strangers. Individual participants also have a chance to win prizes.

NHCO Offers Free Computer Classes

North Hills Community Outreach’s free computer classes are open to the public, but seating is limited and registration is required. Classes include Introduction to Computers, Introduction to the Internet, Internet Job Searching, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel and Microsoft PowerPoint. Classes are held at NHCO Millvale on Wednesdays from 10 a.m. to noon; Avalon Library on Thursdays from 5:45 to 7:45 p.m. and La Roche College on Saturdays from noon to 2 p.m. To sign up for classes, contact Kevin Grande at 412-487-6316, opt. 2 or kgrande@nhco.org.

Volunteer Opportunities at NHCO

  • North Hills Community Outreach is seeking financial coaches to work one-on-one with individuals to develop and improve financial management and behaviors. Training will be held on Feb. 13 from 9:30 – 11:30 a.m. at NHCO Millvale at 416 Lincoln Ave.  For more information, call Harriet Gibbs at 412-487-6316, opt. 2.
  • North Hills Community Outreach will hold a one-hour orientation session for prospective volunteers on March 15 at 6 p.m. at NHCO 1975 Ferguson Road in Allison Park. Contact Linda Robins at 412-487-6316, opt. 2 for more information.
  • North Hills Community Outreach matches caring volunteers with elderly individuals who need a little help to remain independent in their own homes through the Open Your Heart to a Senior program. To help with grocery shopping, rides to the doctor, yard work or home safety checks, call 412-307-0071. Help is needed in every community and neighborhood. Trainings are held throughout the month at various North Hills and greater Pittsburgh locations.
