NHCO Starts the Year With Programs to Help Local Families in Need

NHCO Offers FREE Tax Prep for Low-wage Individuals and Families

North Hills Community Outreach is offering FREE tax preparation for low-income families from January 27 through March 8. To qualify, household income level must be less than $40,000 for a family, or less than $20,000 for an individual. Appointments will be Mondays and Tuesdays at NHCO Bellevue from 4-7pm and Saturdays at NHCO Millvale from 9am to Noon. Appointments are required and must be made by calling 2-1-1. NHCO’s Annual Citrus Sale is Underway

North Hills Community Outreach is taking orders through February 5 for its annual Citrus Sale. Boxes are grapefruit, oranges, tangerines and pears are hand-checked by volunteers and are available for pickup March 1 and 2. Purchases benefit NHCO, which served 5,031 local families in need last year.  Boxes of fruit can also be donated to NHCO’s food pantries. Run for the Hills in the Marathon!

North Hills Community Outreach needs at least 50 runners to commit to running the Dick’s Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Marathon in May. Form a relay team at work or school, or run the half or full marathon, and raise funds and awareness for NHCO. Running for your favorite charity motivates you to keep training! WorkAble Employment Help

WorkAble offers free employment services to unemployed and underemployed people all over Allegheny County. Services include free monthly workshops, one-on-one mentoring, as well as job fairs, social media training, an online learning center and computer lab, and more.  January workshop dates include Job Search Strategies February 4, Resumes & Cover Letters February 12, Art of Networking February 18 and Interviewing 101 February 26, all at 9:30 a.m. in NHCO’s Millvale office. For more information, call Harriet at 412-487-6316 opt 2 or visit www.workableac.com. NHCO Accepting Donations of Organic Seeds Donations of organic seeds are now being collected for NHCO’s Rosalinda Sauro Sirianni Garden. Most needed are lettuce, spinach, bush beans, carrots, cabbage and broccoli. Onion sets and seed potatoes are also needed.  Heirloom varieties and well-labeled seeds from home gardens are welcomed. All produce supports NHCO’s two food pantries. Please drop off at any NHCO location (1975 Ferguson Road, Hampton; 416 Lincoln Avenue, Millvale; AGH Suburban, 100 S. Smart Investments Offers Free Money Management Workshops for Women

Smart Investments, a United Way-funded partnership between North Hills Community Outreach, South Hills Interfaith Ministries, and NeighborWorks, offers free financial literacy help for women. Women struggling with a sudden financial setback can participate in free Financial Skill Building and Money Management Workshops at one of three North Hills Community Outreach locations: January 15, 10 am – 11 am, 416 Lincoln Avenue, Millvale; January 27, 10 am – 11 am; 100 S. Jackson Avenue, 2 South, Bellevue; January 31,  2 pm – 3 pm, 1975 Ferguson Road, Hampton. To register, call NeighborWorks at 412-281-9773.
