NHCO Participating in Facebook Contest to Win $10,000

North Hills Community Outreach (NHCO) has been chosen to compete in the first-ever Generosity Footprints, a Facebook-based contest sponsored by Erie-based Loyal Christian Benefit Association (LCBA). The contest’s champion wins $10,000, while growing individual and collective acts of generosity in local communities.

NHCO is one of only three nonprofit organizations and the only Pittsburgh-area organization selected to participate in the unique, social media event.

To help NHCO win, log on to Facebook through April 30 and visit the North Hills Community Outreach page or search for the Generosity Footprints application. Every check-in earns footprints. Participants can log in every day to get maximum footprints. Volunteering for NHCO earns exponentially more footprints as well as playing a game in the application. At midnight April 30, the organization with the most footprints wins the top prize. Individual participants also have a chance to win prizes.

NHCO was chosen for the contest because of the Faith in Action volunteer caregiving program. The program is a volunteer initiative that enables senior citizens to remain safe, healthy and independent in their own homes for as long as possible. Faith in Action recruits, trains and deploys volunteers to provide non-medical assistance to seniors. In 2010-2011, NHCO provided one-on-one caregiving to 611 seniors with the help of 93 volunteers.

In addition to one-on-one caregiving, NHCO operates a 10-passenger Free Rides for Seniors shuttle bus, funded in part by the St. Margaret Foundation. A total of 41 volunteer drivers and dispatchers, provided 7,331 free rides to 244 seniors on the shuttle in Aspinwall, Blawnox and Sharpsburg boroughs and O’Hara Township.
