NHCO Millvale Hosting No-cost MOVE UP Weight Loss Program

North Hills Community Outreach’s Millvale office is hosting MOVE UP,  a no-cost behavioral weight loss intervention program for older adults. Sessions will be held in NHCO’s Millvale office, 416 Lincoln Avenue, 9:15 -10:15 a.m., Mondays beginning in August contingent on number of enrollees. The program is offered by the University of Pittsburgh Center for Aging and Population Health Prevention Research Center and includes healthy eating, physical activity and behavior modification techniques.

Interested, qualified adults are invited to enroll. Requirements include: adults aged 60 to 75 who are interested in weight management or weight loss in a community setting; meet a certain BMI; medical clearance; no active cancer treatment; no hospitalization within the past 6 months; no active participation in another weight loss program.

About NHCO:

North Hills Community Outreach addresses the needs of people in hardship, crisis and poverty. In FY 2015-16, NHCO served 3,804 families in northern Allegheny County. Established in 1987, NHCO has grown to five sites offering 20 programs ranging from emergency assistance to those that help families regain self-sufficiency. 

 About MOVE UP:

The University of Pittsburgh Center for Aging and Population Health Prevention Research Center (CAPH-PRC) received a grant from the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC) to conduct a program called MOVE UP – Mobility and Vitality Lifestyle Program. MOVE UP is designed for adults aged 60-75 who are interested in an evidence-based weight management or weight loss program in a community setting.  The grant will run from 2013-2018.
