Meet the Direct Care Worker of the Year in Pennsylvania

Marian Hollibaugh of Beaver Falls, a home health aide with Homemaker-Home Health Aide Service of Beaver County, Inc. was recently selected as the PA Department of Aging’s 2010 Direct Care Worker of the Year.  The award is presented annually to a PA direct care worker who has demonstrated excellence in dependability, caring, compassion and work ethics.

Mrs. Hollibaugh has earned the respect, admiration and appreciation of clients, co-workers and supervisors.  She has been a home health aide with the Homemaker agency for 17 years.  “I’ve had many special clients over the years,” Mrs. Hollibaugh noted.  “I get a lot of satisfaction knowing that I can be there and listen.  Sometimes the elderly clients just need someone to talk to.”

Executive Director, Mary Ann Bolland, commented, “Our organization is elated to have the nomination of Marian Hollibaugh selected from all of the nominees in the statewide competition.  We value Marian’s exemplary work and her characteristics that are deserving of the 2010 Direct Care Worker of the Year Award.”

“Marian is supportive, kind, gentle, compassionate and a good listener who provides excellent care to her clients while offering great relief to the client’s family,” wrote Mary Ann Wissinger, RN, Director of Client Services for the Homemaker agency in Mrs. Hollibaugh’s nomination letter.

Recently, Mrs. Hollibaugh was the spokesperson for all direct care workers statewide at Lobby Day at the Capital in Harrisburg sponsored by the PA Homecare Association to promote home care services.  Senator Elder Vogel surprised Mrs. Hollibaugh with a proclamation from the State Senate in recognition of her achievements.

Mrs. Hollibaugh will be recognized at the Governor’s Achievement Awards Luncheon on May 19th in Hershey that she will attend with her daughter and agency personnel.
