Chase the winter blahs by attending a spring season show at Lincoln Park Performing Arts Center!
Tickets are inexpensive, Lincoln Park is right here in Beaver County, the performances are live and first-rate, and there is something to suit every taste, from concerts and dance to musicals, comedy and children’s fare.
The spring late winter lineup of shows include a Fabulous ‘50s concert by River City Brass Feb. 29; the British farce “It Runs in the Family” Feb. 24-26 and March 2-4; a children’s play based on the book “The Phantom Tollbooth” on March 24, and the dance spectacular “Pop! (And the Art of Dance)” on March 9-11.

“Pop!…” is a “retro-cool tribute in song and dance to the golden age of rock and roll, R&B, soul and pop music, featuring a live band, pop-art visuals and original choreography.” Lincoln Park dancers will perform to the music of Bill Haley, Chubby Checker, The Beach Boys, Sam Cook and Michael Jackson, taking the audience back in time with classic TV show themes, the Motown sound and the Fab Four.
A children’s play, “The Phantom Tollbooth Jr.,” is based on a children’s book beloved for its wordplay. Celebrating the 50th anniversary of the book’s publication, ”…Tollbooth Jr.” is produced and presented by Jeter Backyard Theater of Gibsonia, Pa. Three performances in succession are scheduled on Saturday, March 24. Last fall Jeter brought a version of “Disney’s Aladdin” to Lincoln Park. A version of “Little Mermaid” is planned later this spring.
The region’s best steel drum bands will take the stage in the annual Steel Drum Festival March 26, headlined by Liam Teague. Teague is a native of Trinidad and Tobago who is hailed as the “Paganini of the Steelpan.” Accomplished on the violin and recorder as well as steelpan, Teague opened for MC Hammer and performed at the Kennedy Center.
Tickets are $19 and $21 for the River City Brass “Fabulous 50s” show on Feb. 29, a tribute to early rock ‘n roll; Tickets for individual shows can be purchased at Lincoln Park or from RCB at www.rivercitybrass.org or 1.800.292.7222. Senior citizens (60 and older) should request a $2 discount per ticket. RCB plans two more concerts this season at Lincoln Park, in April and May.
For $5 a ticket, the public can enjoy talented Lincoln Park Performing Arts Charter School student performances in four school-related shows: the music department’s student recital March 6; the LAVA literary and visual arts festival March 7; unscripted comedy at Improv Night March 16; and a student-directed one-act play festival March 30-31.
The group Pure Gold is to play a benefit for Divine Mercy Academy on April 14.
Tickets are to go on sale March 19 for Lincoln Park’s big spring musical, “How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying,” on stage May 4-6 and 11-13.
