Lincoln Park Graduate’s Photo Exhibit Opens March 4

‘Faces of Zdvishivka: A Portrait of Ukraine’

Twice in the past two years, student Nate Sullivan of Hermitage, Pa., traveled halfway around the world to the small village of Zdvishivka, Ukraine, as part of a mission to a church-supported children’s home.

On these visits Sullivan saw “the power of hope in the midst of brokenness.” He sought to capture that spirit in photographic images.

An exhibit of Sullivan’s photographs entitled “Faces of Zdvishivka: A Portrait of Ukraine” is to be on public display at his alma mater, Lincoln Park Performing Arts Charter School, March 4-11. Sponsored by the school, the exhibit will open with a reception from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Sunday, March 4. Light refreshments are to be provided; the public is invited.

The exhibit will be open to the public from 6-9 p.m. daily from Tuesday, March 6, through Saturday, March 10, with a final showing on Sunday, March 11, from 12:30-4:30 p.m.

During the reception Sullivan is to speak briefly about his photography and his personal mission of “finding, sharing, and working to support the stories of hope in this world.”

Admission is free, but donations will be accepted for the New Life Zdvishivka Children’s Home. Receipts from the sale of prints from this show also are to benefit the children’s home, which is supported by Sullivan’s home church, New Life Baptist Church in Wilmington.

Not a detached observer, Sullivan considers himself an active participant with a passion for hearing and sharing the stories of those he encounters along the way, and using these stories to inspire positive change.

A son of Tracy and Warren Sullivan of Hermitage, Sullivan is a member of the Lincoln Park Class of 2010. He studied photography and graphic design in the Lincoln Park media arts department. At Huntington University in Indiana, Sullivan is enrolled in communication studies, educational ministry, and intercultural studies.

He recently traveled to Chennai, India, to work with a team from his university at the Home of Love, a home for young girls at risk of entering the sex trade.

The timing of the exhibit coincides with scheduled performances at Lincoln Park, so theater patrons will be able to view Sullivan’s photos before shows and at intermission.
