Human Trafficking Awareness Month 2018 Is Here

In 2011, former President Barack Obama issued a Presidential Proclamation that designated each January to be National Slavery and Human Trafficking Prevention Month.

Human Trafficking Prevention Month is designed to raise awareness, educate, and move the country forward in our response to human trafficking. With nearly 27 million victims in the world today, no country, state, or city is immune. Human trafficking can and does happen everywhere. While the last decade has shed much light on human trafficking, attention to this topic has also emerged in ways that promote stereotypes and false assumptions about survivors.

Our country needs to hear from those of us engaged daily in the realities of this work, not to mention, from those of us who are survivors, thrivers, and overcomers. January is the perfect opportunity for us to not just educate the broader public, but to engage them in an intentional manner.
