Homemaker- Home Health Aide Service of Beaver County, Inc. makes it possible to remain“Happy at Home” by helping the elderly with home care services.
Bill and Patricia led very active and independent lives. Bill served in the US Navy and retired from US Steel as an airplane mechanic after 25 years. The couple spent 17 years in North Carolina taking care of Bill’s sister who suffered a stroke. Bill went from helping others to being in need himself.
Bill injured his back early in life and it deteriorated over the years. “I shrunk about twelve inches over the years,” he remarked. When Bill went into the hospital he suffered some setbacks, including a pressure ulcer and an adverse reaction to the pain medication. Patricia’s emphysema has slowed her down. Their family realized the couple needed 24 hour home care service to ensure their safety.
Marian, our Home Health Aide, enjoys helping Bill and Patricia. They have developed a good relationship and enjoy reminiscing about the past. Patricia has “gained a friend” and feels her outlook on the future has improved since their Home Health Aide Service began. Patricia feels when she needed help “God gave her Marian,” proudly noting that Marian was selected as Pennsylvania’s Direct Care Worker of the Year for 2010!
With help at home, Bill and Patricia’s situation has improved remarkably and they were able to reduce their service to eight hours daily, four days a week. Marian assists with their personal hygiene, medication reminders, meals, and activities. She also manages the routine housekeeping tasks that are too physical for the couple.
