Lending Hearts is a nonprofit organization that facilitates free services in a supportive and engaging atmosphere for children with cancer to come and feel like a kid among their peers. Pediatric cancer patients have a difficult time juggling the life of a typical child in today’s world while also dealing with the physical and emotional changes caused by cancer. Lending Hearts provides an out of hospital opportunity to not feel alone in the battle against cancer. It is an opportunity for them to interact with their peers who are experiencing similar changes, to not feel different but rather engage in activities and enrichments that allow for a feeling of “normalcy.” Children, families and friends learn about Lending Hearts through their care givers, Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh, local schools and other area facilities. Lending Hearts’ unique market focus and program for approaching pediatric cancer patients fills a void in the services offered to children
