GPLC Opens GED Testing Center

Hundreds of young people and adults in the Pittsburgh area want to take the GED tests to get their high school equivalency diploma.  A year ago there were only three testing centers in all of Allegheny County, but two of them have closed!  Students have been waiting three or four months or longer for an opportunity to take the tests.  What a waste of human potential!  The young people could be moving on to college, vocational training, or jobs, but they are on a waiting list for a seat in the testing room.

Greater Pittsburgh Literacy Council (GPLC) is responding to this situation by opening a testing center in its downtown Pittsburgh facility at 411 Seventh Avenue.  Testing is done on Thursday evenings and Friday mornings, and registration in advance is required.  GPLC is partnering with Intermediate Unit 1 to open the center.  The first testing session is already filling up, and GPLC is pleased to provide a much-needed service to the community.  For more information, or to register for the test, call 412-393-7600.
