Free Tax Preparation and Citrus Sale Start 2017 at NHCO

NHCO’s Annual Citrus Sale is underway

North Hills Community Outreach is taking orders through February 6 for its annual Citrus Sale. NHCO also seeks congregations, schools or civic groups to help take group orders. Boxes are grapefruit, oranges, tangerines and pears are hand-checked by volunteers and are available for pickup March 4 and 5 in St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, 1965 Ferguson Road. Purchases benefit NHCO, which served 3,804 local families in need last year.  Boxes of fruit can also be donated to NHCO’s food pantries. NHCO seeks funds for Sharing Winter Warmth

Funds are urgently needed for North Hills Community Outreach’s  Sharing Winter Warmth program so that families in need can receive a $50 credit toward a heat or light bill.

To donate, please make checks payable to NHCO, write Sharing Projects on the memo line, and mail or deliver to NHCO, 1975 Ferguson Rd, Allison Park, PA 15101. For more information, please call 412-487-6316 opt 1. 

NHCO offering Money in Your Pocket FREE Tax Preparation

North Hills Community Outreach is once again offering FREE tax preparation for eligible individuals through the United Way Money In Your Pocket tax preparation program. Appointments are required and can be made by calling

United Way’s helpline,  2-1-1,  starting January 10, 2017.

Income eligibility requirements:

For households with ONE PERSON,  annual income must be $25,000 or less. For households with MORE THAN ONE PERSON, annual income must be $45,000 or less.

NHCO’s Bellevue/North Boroughs site will be open for tax prep appointments Mondays and Wednesdays, 4:30 to 7:30pm, beginning January 18.

NHCO’s Millvale site will be open for tax prep appointments Saturdays, 9:00am to noon, beginning January 21. 

NHCO accepting donations of organic seeds

Donations of organic seeds are now being collected for North Hills Community Outreach’s Rosalinda Sauro Sirianni Garden. Most needed are lettuce, beet, chard, kale, turnip and radish seeds as well as onion sets and seed potatoes.  Heirloom varieties and well-labeled seeds from home gardens are welcomed. All produce supports NHCO’s three food pantries. Please mail or drop off at any NHCO location (visit nhco.org or call 412-487-6316 for addresses). Seniors need volunteer snow shovelers

Seniors in all neighborhoods in northern Allegheny County need volunteers to keep their yards and sidewalks safe by shoveling snow. This is a great project for teens, youth groups and families. Ask the Attorney sessions for low-income families

Free legal consultation for issues such as divorce, bankruptcy, credit issues, family matters, rent disputes and more is available for families in need at North Hills Community Outreach locations the third Wednesday of each month at 7:00pm except December. The next ATA sessions are: NHCO Millvale January 18 and NHCO North Boroughs February 15. Attendees MUST preregister for these sessions by contacting Brady at briedel@nhco.org or 412-408-3830 x 3217. 

NHCO General Volunteer Orientations

North Hills Community Outreach will host Volunteer Orientation sessions at 10am, Thursday, January 12 at NHCO North Boroughs in the physician’s dining room, AGH-Suburban Campus, 100 S. Jackson Ave., Bellevue and Thursday, February 9 at NHCO Millvale.

Volunteer needs include drivers for Free Rides for Seniors shuttles, drivers to transport seniors to appointments, volunteers for the Pittsburgh Marathon, groups or individuals to hold collections and fund raisers, and more. Please register with Harriet at hzgibbs@nhco.org or 412-408-3830 x 3204.

NHCO In Service of Seniors Volunteer Orientations

North Hills Community Outreach’s In Service of Seniors program matches volunteers with seniors to provide a ride to the doctor, help with grocery shopping, friendly visiting or snow shoveling. Your friendship and just an hour of your time each week or even once a month means so much to a senior. Run for the Hills! NHCO seeks 5K runners, relay teams and marathoners

North Hills Community Outreach invites runners of all abilities to run one of the races of the Dick’s Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Marathon May 6 and 7, 2017. Registration is FREE when you run for NHCO and help local families in need.  Runners can choose the 5K, form a relay team, or run the half or full marathon. Visit thepittsburghmarathon.com/charities

Working families are waiting: Donate your car to Community Auto

Your unwanted running vehicle can help a low-income, working individual. Vehicles donated to Community Auto are repaired and sold at below-market value to local, working families who need them to get to work. Cars not suitable for repair are sold at auction and the money is used for the program. Ask us about donating fleet cars!
