Entrepreneurship Academy Alumni Wins Sustainable Entrepreneurship Honor

On November 9th, the Slippery Rock University Sustainable Enterprise Accelerator held its first annual Sustainable Entrepreneur’s networking event and award ceremony at the Russell Wright Alumni House.  SRU’s fall semester interns partnered with this year’s Butler County Entrepreneurship Academy co-hort to organize the event, which featured SRU student businesses, Entrepreneurship Academy student business teams and community entrepreneurs such as North Country Brewing who introduced their products and services to the public and told their entrepreneurial story.

Mercer County Entrepreneurship Academy alumni Jacob Morgan, who participated in the first co-hort during the 2014-2015 school year, presented his business E.A.R.T.H., which stands for Environmentally Authentic and Robust Tiny Houses. Jake, who is a sophomore at Thiel College, and his business partners have their first tiny house prototype under construction.  Jake is working with Thiel College to develop his tiny houses into alternative on-campus student housing.  At the end of the evening, Jake’s business was presented with the Award of Excellence in Sustainable Business Practices, co-sponsored by the Entrepreneurship Academy and SRU’s Sustainable Enterprise Accelerator.

The Franklin Center has been a partner in the Entrepreneurship Academy program since it began in 2014.  Other partners include the Midwestern Intermediate Unit and Butler County Community College.
