Dogs in Need to Receive Donated Turkey Dinners for Thanksgiving

Back to Basics Turkey Formula Dog Food will be donated to Animal Friends Chow Wagon

In light of the canned-food drives, soup kitchen events and general goodwill that Thanksgiving inspires year after year, Ainsworth Pet Nutrition – America’s oldest family-owned pet food company – is making sure that the dogs of families in need are included in the spirit of giving this Turkey Day. The corporation plans to donate more than $5,000 of its Back to Basics brand premium dog food turkey formula to Animal Friend’s Chow Wagon.

Local pooches will get to enjoy 168 bags of the premium dog food, which will be delivered to Loaves & Fishes Food Pantry, a part of North Hills Community Outreach and an Animal Friend’s Chow Wagon program affiliate. Families with dogs in need will be able to retrieve the donated food at Loaves & Fishes Food Pantry located at 1975 Ferguson Road, Allison Park, PA 15101, on Tuesday, November 22 from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. during the organization’s weekly open pantry hours where anywhere from 80 – 100 local families are expected to come for food, and dog food, to help make their Thanksgiving week a little brighter.

In addition to the dog food donation, the Ainsworth executives will roll up their sleeves while volunteering at Loaves & Fishes Tuesday, November 22 during open pantry hours and will be available for media interviews from 1:30 p.m. – 2:30 p.m.

“We’re extremely thankful to Ainsworth’s Back to Basics brand for this generous donation, and it is sure to go fast,” said Jolene Miklas, director of communications at Animal Friends. “We’re constantly hearing from our food pantry partners about people in need asking for food for their animals, and when it’s not available, even asking for extra human food that they can feed to their pets. Families in need will truly welcome this opportunity to get to treat their dogs to a turkey dinner made especially for them this Thanksgiving.”
Turkey giblets (turkey livers and turkey hearts) are the number one ingredient in Back to Basics’ Turkey Formula. Dogs that wouldn’t normally have the opportunity to enjoy such top-quality food will be able to experience all of the benefits of a premium protein source that is nutrient dense, easily digestible and extremely palatable. And because Back to Basics is a calorie dense food, Loaves & Fishes’ food pantry clients will be able to feed their dogs less of it than the average grocery store brand.

“This Thanksgiving, we wanted to give back to dog-loving families in our hometown,” said Ainsworth CEO, Sean Lang. “And to truly provide a special holiday gift, we’re donating our very best, Back to Basics. This donation will make it possible for local dog owners to share Thanksgiving dinner with their dogs in a nutritious and safe way.”
Back to Basics is part of the Ainsworth Specialty Brands Family, a division of Ainsworth Pet Nutrition, and can be purchased online or at independent pet stores.

Back to Basics is instinctual, grain-free nutrition that is as close to what nature would offer yet still provides all the benefits of a complete and balanced meal. Back to Basics is made with real organ meat, which is what dogs would instinctively choose to eat in the wild — not only because organs are the most nutrient dense, but also because they’re the most palatable. Back to Basics is potato free, gluten free and, of course, grain free. There are no chemical or artificial preservatives, including artificial colors, dyes or bleach. There are no chicken or poultry by-product meals or fillers, and there are no fruits or botanicals.
