Dan McCoy Honored at Children’s HOMEtown Hero Luncheon

The Children’s Home of Pittsburgh & Lemieux Family Center will host its Third Annual The Children’s HOMEtown Hero Luncheon, which will honor this year’s HOMEtown Hero award recipient, Dan McCoy. Dan, along with his Paralympic Sled Hockey team, won the gold medal at the 2014 Paralympic Winter Games in Sochi, Russia.

A native of Pittsburgh and Fox Chapel graduate, Dan was born with spina bifida, a birth defect caused by the incomplete formation of vertebrae, and hydrocephalus, a medical condition in which there is an abnormal accumulation of fluid in the brain. He has never let those conditions stop him from becoming an athlete, and as he started playing sled hockey at age nine, he served as goalie for his high school’s junior varsity lacrosse team for a season. Dan is currently a student at the University of Pittsburgh, where he is pursuing a degree in rehabilitation science and sports medicine.

This year’s luncheon will include served lunch, a silent auction and raffle and a special program by Dan McCoy.
