Peace Partners are individuals, families, businesses, foundations, community groups and organizations who are doing their “Piece for Peace”.  Our Peace Partner Awards Committee has selected the following 2012 honorees:

•     In the “Individual” category:

    • Dr. Mary Carrasco is being honored for her longstanding contributions to the prevention and intervention of child abuse and neglect through the establishment of family centers and child advocacy centers in Allegheny County.
    • Mr. Fred Rogers, posthumously, who is being honored for his longstanding role as creator and host of Mister Roger’s Neighborhood; a make-believe community of peace, compassion, patience, and morality.

•     In the category of “Youth and Young Adult” Matthew Fidel is being honored for his contributions to the “Bridging Faiths” program, and for his social action work of engaging and integrating teens of different faith and cultural backgrounds.

•     In the category of “Non-Profit Organization”,The Sisters of St. Joseph of Baden, PA are being honored for their work towards peace and justice through the Peace Camps that they organize to help children learn themes of respect, caring, and forgiveness though interactive and innovative activities.

We hope you will join us in celebrating these wonderful people who are actively working to make The Greater Pittsburgh Community a safer and more peaceful place to live!
