Crisis Management Course Coming to Greensburg

Rural Domestic Preparedness Consortium offering FREE Department of Homeland Security-certified course on Crisis Management for School-based Incidents to Greensburg, Pennsylvania           

In the event of a school-based incident, school administrators, rural law enforcement officers, and other emergency responders must be prepared to act quickly and precisely to take control of the situation.

The Rural Domestic Preparedness Consortium (RDPC) is providing these and others responsible for school security in Greensburg, Pennsylvania with free crisis management training on how to effectively respond to an emergency involving a school building or an entire school system.

RDPC will be delivering Department of Homeland Security (DHS)-certified  AWR 148 Crisis Management for School-Based Incidents: Partnering Rural Law Enforcement and the Local School Systems.  This training will be on ­­­­January 12, 2013 at Hempfield Township Emergency Management, located at 1132 Woodward Drive, Greensburg, PA, 15601 from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, giving participants a foundation of knowledge and skills to progressively establish a school-based emergency response plan and crisis management team through information sharing and training.

The eight-hour, instructor-led course was developed by the Ohio-based University of Findlay, an academic partner for RDPC, specifically for school administrators and emergency responders. This awareness level course provides an opportunity for rural law enforcement and school personnel to develop a partnership with regard to school safety through effective collaborative planning, preparedness, communication, and coordination of resources. Other targeted audience members include emergency management, emergency medical services, fire services, governmental administrative, law enforcement, public safety communications, and public works.

All training delivered by RDPC is certified by DHS and is offered tuition-free for a broad scope of stakeholders in qualifying jurisdictions, including the traditional emergency response disciplines, and other emergency response functions as defined by the National Response Framework, as well as critical infrastructure owners and operators.

RDPC is a U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) National Training and Education Division (NTED) partnership of academic institutions with a vision of creating an environment wherein rural communities across America will have the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to enhance the safety, security and quality of life for their citizens.

Current members of the Consortium include East Tennessee State University, Eastern Kentucky University, The University of Findlay, NorthWest Arkansas Community College, and North Carolina Central University.  Each of these institutions possesses extensive and unique capabilities relating to rural homeland security preparedness training.

As a strategic partner to the RDPC, The Center for Rural Development in Somerset,Ky.is responsible for technology including a large network of interactive television (ITV), videoconferencing, and learning management systems necessary to manage large student populations and deliver courses to rural responders across the nation.
