For this year’s Circle of Hope gala, Pennsylvania Women Work will be honoring Cindy Gormley with the Yvonne Zanos Women of Courage Award. Cindy Gormley has assisted over 400 nonprofit organizations with support, resources and planning. Her contributions to the community truly capture the spirit of the Women of Courage Award. About Cindy Gormley: Ms. Gormley’s impressive career history highlights not only her exceptional achievements but also her generous character. She began her career in the United States Marine Corps and Army Reserve and has an impressive educational background, including a Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration and a Master’s degree in Organizational Leadership from Point Park University, as well as a Doctorate degree in Information Systems and Communications from Robert Morris University. She has also volunteered for numerous nonprofits, including the Girl Scouts of Western Pennsylvania. She first became employed by the Commonwealth in 1986 by the Department of Public Welfare. In working there, she examined the needs of communities in Southwestern Pennsylvania and saw opportunities to improve community relations. Now Ms. Gormley assists community nonprofits in forming partnerships with local businesses to improve neighborhoods in Pittsburgh and across the Southwestern region of Pennsylvania. Always willing to meet personally with nonprofit staff, discuss ideas for new projects or offer pointers on securing funding, Ms. Gormley is an invaluable resource to the nonprofit community. Her extensive knowledge of community agencies in the region demonstrates her passion for the nonprofit sector, and her warm personality makes her a joy to work with.
