According to police and healthcare professionals, domestic violence spikes during the holidays. Holiday expenses, children being home from school, family celebrations which often include alcohol all add more stressors to a relationship already suffering from domestic violence.
Women’s Center & Shelter of Greater Pittsburgh’s core value is to empower women who have been victims of domestic violence to make their own choices. During the holidays we want our women to have the freedom to shop for their own children.
By donating gift cards, you give her the opportunity to delight in the experience of deciding on the appropriate gift for her child.
Gift Card Amounts:
- Family of 5 = $250
- Family of 4 = $200
- Family of 3 = $150
- Family of 2 = $100
- Mom = $50
Can you help our ladies make the holidays special for their children?

Helping the Women’s Center & Shelter of Greater Pittsburgh is as simple as donating your old cell phone. The organization is currently partnering with Shelter Alliance, a program of the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence and the Global Refurbishment Corporation.
Through this partnership, the Women’s Center & Shelter of Greater Pittsburgh will collect donated cell phones and batteries and ship them to Shelter Alliance. Shelter Alliance will then clear the phones of all data then recycle or dispose of the phone in an environmentally-friendly way.
The monetary donation that is received for each cell phone is $.50 – $30. This money will be used to defray the cost of the operating expenses necessary to help victims of intimate partner violence. Please do not include chargers and accessories with your phone donation.
For a list of our drop off locations please visit www.wcspittsburgh.org. Click on “Ways to Give”, then “Donate Your Cell Phone” or call 412-687-8017.

The Women’s Center & Shelter of Greater Pittsburgh has two community events coming up that help to support their mission of preventing domestic violence and providing services to domestic violence victims.
The 19th Annual UPMC Health Plan Spring Clothes Out will take place on Wednesday, May 13th 5:00 pm at the Renaissance Pittsburgh Hotel.
The event’s highlight is the awarding of the Ted Craig Humanitarian Award, which recognizes and honors an individual or organization that has demonstrated excellence and outstanding achievement in their profession, and has displayed an unsurpassed commitment to community service.
Event attendees make cash donations and donations of gently worn women’s business suits or dresses. The clothing is then made available to hundreds of Women’s Center clients who are in need of business clothes to enable them to begin or continue in the work force. Typically, over 1,000 pieces of business clothing is collected each year at the Spring Clothes Out. Call 412-687-8017 x338 for more information.
The second event is the Highmark Walk for a Healthy Community which will take place on Saturday, May 30 9:00 am at Heinz Field.
Thousands of walkers will lace up their walking shoes and take to the streets of the North Shore of Pittsburgh in support of 44 nonprofit organizations, including Women’s Center & Shelter at the Highmark Walk for a Healthy Community.
The walk is a unique fundraising event. Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield underwrites 100 percent of the cost of the walk, and handles all of the logistics. To register to walk for the Women’s Center & Shelter please go to www.walkforahealthycommunity.orgThe
