Domestic Violence Assistance

profiding direction to victims of domestic violenceCrisis Center North (CCN) is a nonprofit counseling and educational resource center, which for the last 30 years has served victims of domestic violence, their children, and teens involved in violent dating relationships. The Center has been a program member of the Pennsylvania Coalition Against Domestic Violence (PCADV), since 1983.  The Coalition is a statewide organization of 61 programs, which ensure that member organizations maintain the highest standards and provide quality services to victims of domestic violence across the commonwealth.

The mission of CCN is to empower victims of domestic violence and cultivate community attitudes and behaviors that break the cycle of violence. The Center maintains the following goalimage2s:

  • offer immediate and transitional services to victims and their families free of charge,
  • increase community awareness of the social costs of violent behavior,
  • develop professional expertise for responding to victims,
  • promote strategies to combat violence in homes, schools, and neighborhoods,
  • network with other organizations to address the broader needs of victims to break the cycle of violence

The Center provides: a 24-hour hotline; individual and group counseling for adults and children; case-management; economic empowerment programming; legal advocacy; medical advocacy; and community prevention education trainings to schools, colleges, employers, churches, hospitals, and law enforcement agencies. CCN provides services to individuals regardless of race, age, gender, disability, economic status, or sexual orientation. CCN is unique in the victim services field, as we provide 24-hour in-person coverage of the agency’s hotline and advocacy services in hospitals and police departments.

As one of four domestic violence counseling centers in Allegheny County, CCN is exclusive in that it is a counseling and educational resource center. Its service specialties are counseling and advocacy services provided on a short-term basis for crisis intervention and a long-term basis to support clients through the transition to safety and sustainability.  CCN’s structure is in response to community need, as victims have expressed their need for longer term counseling services outweighs the need for short-term shelter programming.  This design allows CCN to collaborate with other shelter programs in the region to alleviate a client’s short-term need for housing, while allowing the agency to provide supportive services over a longer term.
