CASA Beaver County Inc. will host an Open House on October 28, 2009 at 5:00 PM held in the Board Room on 250 Insurance Street, Beaver PA 15009 Come and learn about becoming a Court Appointed Special Advocate for abused and neglected children in Beaver County.
CASA is the only volunteer organization that empowers everyday citizens as officers of the court. In an overburdened social welfare system, abused and neglected children often slip through the cracks among hundreds of current cases. CASA volunteers change that. Appointed by judges, CASA volunteers typically handle just one case at a time-and commit to staying on that case until the child is placed in a safe, permanent home.

Court Appointed Special Advocate
The CASA Program of Beaver County has just been awarded certification by the National Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) Association. This certification recognizes that CASA of Beaver County, Inc. is in compliance with National CASA’s high standards for quality child advocacy.
According to Michael Piraino, CEO of the National CASA Association, “The National CASA quality assurance process is very rigorous, and reflects our commitment to ensure every child we serve has the most powerful volunteer advocate working on their behalf. This certification says CASA of Beaver County, Inc. has demonstrated to us a strong capacity to provide excellent services to the abused and neglected children within their community.”
CASA of Beaver County, Inc. was started in 2001. One of our cases was a twelve year old female. Here is one of our volunteer advocate’s comments:
“We followed the young lady and her family through every counseling appointment to their biggest and most difficult day, her father’s trial. We watched this young lady heal, overcome and thrive. She became stronger and stronger. She stood up in court with her extended family and CASA by her side and was able to face her father, testifying to the abuse she suffered at his hands. She is now living in another state with her grandparents and able to start her new life. To this day I still receive e-mails from her and her grandmother. They are doing very well.”
This is only one of many CASA stories.

About the National CASA Association- In 1976, concerned over making decisions about abused and neglected children’s lives without sufficient information, a Seattle judge conceived the idea of using trained community volunteers to speak for the best interests of these children in court, helping to ensure that they will live in a safe and loving environment. So successful was this Seattle program that soon judges across the country began utilizing citizen advocates. In 1990, the U.S. Congress encouraged the expansion of CASA/GAL with passage of the Victims of Child Abuse Act. Today, there are more than 950 National CASA member programs across the country, with more than 70,000 men and women serving as CASA or Guardian ad Litem volunteers.
CASA Beaver County, Inc. is in need of funding and volunteer advocates.
