Local Chefs Provide Tasty Gourmet Delights in Beautiful Kitchens

The AAUW Beaver Valley Branch will hold its eighth annual Kitchen Tour, Touring and Tasting Delights, on Saturday, September 26, 2009 from 11:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. in Beaver and Brighton Township.  

Six lovely new and remodeled kitchens will be featured along with chefs who will prepare a food item to be sampled by each patron.  These chefs may be from local restaurants or homeowners, themselves accomplished in their kitchens. 

Dutch Ridge Elementary School, “Marketplace and Cafe” in Brighton Township will be the location for various vendors, bake sale, raffles and the gourmet luncheon from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.  The featured raffle is a weeks stay at a condo, Keystone Ski Resort in Colorado for November 13-20.  The condo sleeps nine and is valued at $1,500 - $1,800.  Bidding will start at $500. 

Proceeds from Touring and Tasting Delights benefit the AAUW Educational Foundation which awards scholarships annually to local women graduates.  2009 AAUW scholarship recipients were Abigail Kucher-South Side High School, Terika Swanson-Aliquippa High School, and Kristen Ann Lancaster- Beaver High School.  The non-traditional recipient was Barbara Lopez-Heritage Valley Sewickley School of Nursing. 

Pre-sale Tour Tickets are available at a cost of $15.00 at the Hostess Shoppe in Beaver, Pa or by calling 724-728-7908.   Tour Ticket includes a door prize ticket.  Tickets can be purchased that day at the door for $18.00.  Cost for the gourmet luncheon is $10.00 and must be purchased in advance.  Deadline for luncheon tickets is 9/23/09.

THE KITCHENS 

1.  1692 River Road, Beaver               Chef Margy Law of 3M Personal Chef Service 

The facade of this home-with-a-view is characteristic of Floridian architecture.  The muted coral, soft yellow, and creamy beige tones are used in perfect progression and compliment the white-washed, white oak flooring.  The skillful use of tropical hues is extended to the self-contained, spacious and elongated kitchen.  Pale wood tones are used for the cabinetry and the counters are off-white Corian.  The cream-toned appliances and white metal light fixtures continue the palette.  

2. 100 Oak Street and River Road, Beaver      Chef Emily Pizutti, Emily’s Pastry Shoppe 

The front entrance transitions to the hallway leading to the spacious, well designed, and highly efficient kitchen.  The cabinetry is oak with a light pickling finish and the ample surfaces are white Corian.  An original painting on ceramic fronts a portion of the spacious island.  The adjoining Breakfast Room affords a splendid view of the newly landscaped patio created by the specialized expertise of the homeowner. 

3. 704 North Avenue, Brighton Twp.          Chef Cindy Bologna-Ridge, Silk House Cafe 

A cool neutral palette is used throughout, enlivened withcarefully chosen red accents.  The opal finish on the oak cabinetry coordinates perfectly with the pearl-gray granite countertops and sizable double-tiered island.  The KitchenAid appliances are stainless and the flooring is cherry-stained hardwood.  Country French dinette and appointments complete the warm and inviting mood of this imposing kitchen. 

4. Felicity Farms Bed & Breakfast Inn         Chef Judy McDermott, AAUW member,

 2075 Dutch Ridge Road, Brighton Twp.      and husband, Walt 

A complete renovation retained the architectural distinction and sense of history to this 200+ year old home.  Non-traditional and varied cabinetry mimics the use of kitchen storage closets from another era.  A treated cherry woodwork surface tops an antique-white bead board island.  Also establishing a timeless effect are Federal blue painted cabinets, concealed refrigerator, a polished furniture-like pantry, and a distressed china closet. 

5. 3445 Dutch Ridge Road, Brighton Twp.      Chef Deb DelMonte, in her own home 

Upon entering the vestibule of the “Chouse” (church turned house), it becomes evident to the visitor that the visionary homeowners accomplished the evolution of a jewel.  The cabinetry is natural cherry, the flooring oak, and the appliances are stainless.  These elements are perfectly reflected in the coloration of the expansive glass mosaic wall-covering.  The counters, as well as the surface of the imposing curved island, are darkly-tinted poured concrete.  

Dutch Ridge Elementary School:  From Medical Center, follow Dutch Ridge Road north for 1.4 miles.  Turn Right.  Enjoy the ambiance of a quaint little French village by having lunch at Le Bistro (cafe) and shopping at specialty boutiques at La Place (marketplace).  Coffee bar refreshments from Cafe Kolache and sweet breads from La Boulangerie will be sold all day. 

 Menu for Gourmet Lunch:  Traditional Kitchen Tour Sandwich of Black Forrest turkey breast layered withSwiss cheese, raspberry mayonnaise with hint of red onion and served on specially created Jenny Lee Bakery raisin roll; Tropical Rice Melange (salad); seasonal fresh fruit; chips; home baked cookies using Neiman Marcus recipe; iced tea. 

The proceeds of “Touring and Tasting Delights” benefit our scholarship fund.
