AREA SENIOR CITIZENS TO PARTICIPATE IN “DANCE YOUR BABUSHKA OFF” CONTEST
WBVP and WMBA are announcing plans for the first ever “Dance Your Babushka Off” contest. The unique dancing contest event will be done in conjunction with R.S.V.P. (Retired Senior Volunteer Program) of Beaver County’s Swing Into Summer senior dance on June 8th at Center Stage on Old Brodhead Road in Center Township. The dance will be held from 1 until 4 p.m. and is an annual beloved tradition for many Beaver County senior citizens, particularly those in long term care. “This wonderful opportunity for our seniors to get out and socialize, it really is the highlight of the year for many of them” commented R.S.V.P. Director Valerie McElvy. Again this year, back by popular demand, Wally Merriman will provide the live music. At 2 p.m., the dance floor will be turned over to a handful of couples who have signed up to participate in “Dance Your Babushka Off”. Contestant couples will receive scoring from celebrity judges including Tony Amadio, Beaver County Commission Chairman, Heather Yates, Beaver Area High School Varsity Cheerleader Coach, and Rod Smith, Senior Pastor at Chippewa United Methodist Church. Trophies, courtesy of Engraving by Debbie, will be awarded to the top scoring and runner up couples.
Special commemorative babushkas, provided by Sportin’ My Stuff, will be given to and worn by the participating couples and celebrity judges. Mark Peterson, Station Manager at WBVP and WMBA will serve as Master of Ceremonies for “Dance Your Babushka Off”. Hot dogs, cookies and beverages will be served at the event, and door prizes will be available as well.
