Two local organizations partner to raise funds to help control New Kensington’s animal population
Dogs big and small are often seen strutting their stuff in furry sweaters, boots and bandanas – how about a Blue Thong!? While it’s likely that most furry creatures would be uncomfortable sporting a blue thong, that’s not a concern for Animal Protectors (AP) and the local chapter of Blue Thong Society (BTS). This year, in an effort to raise funds for Animal Protectors general fund, Nancy Weaver of the local Blue Thong Society is working her magic to collect gift cards for the shelter’s annual $1,000 Gift Card Raffle. “We are excited to be teamed up with AP to help them collect gift cards for their popular $1,000 Gift Card Raffle,” says Weaver. “Each year, BTS, as part of a
bi-annual chapter commitment program called Goodworks,™ picks a goal and we make it happen. The gift card collection is what we are making happen – the importance of raising funds for the Alle-Kiski Valley’s only no-kill, non-profit shelter is crucial to helping control the animal population in the community.” Each year, head AP fundraiser Pat Presutti works hard to raise much needed funds for daily operations through a variety of raffles and community tabling events. Presutti says, “We are so happy to have the extra hands of the folks at Blue Thong Society to help us carry out our mission to protect the abandoned, abused and neglected animals in our community. Our animals rely on the generosity of community members – there is no better example of this than our partnership. Blue Thong Society is out there gathering much needed fundraising raffle items for us – and spreading our mission and good doings; we could not be more thrilled.” Animal Protectors is a 501(c)3 organization and relies solely on the generosity of the community to keep its doors open. Organizations like Blue Thong Society make it possible for AP to raise much needed monies to cover medical expenses, emergency treatment, food and shelter. “The efforts of AP and BTS will be displayed later in the year when we draw the winner – this is always a subject of suspense for those present,” proudly smiles Presutti. BTS and AP are currently in the gift card collection phase. To donate a gift card to AP, please mail it to the shelter, drop it off in the shelter office or contact firstname.lastname@example.org additional information. Donated gift cards should include the amount available for use on each card donated.
