Amizade Programs in Pittsburgh

Amizade is thrilled to have welcomed two groups of volunteers from our community sites around the world to Pittsburgh this year!

In April, Amizade hosted a group of 10 young men from Northern Ireland. The young men and their chaperons came from Amizade’s community partner in Belfast, YouthWorks. While in the US the group had a whirlwind visit of American culture and service in New York City, Washington, DC, Morgantown, WV, and Pittsburgh, PA. Read more about this program on our blog. This will be the first of many groups from Northern Ireland that will be coming to the USA for Amizade Global Service-Learning experiences. Stay tuned to hear more!

In addition to hosting our friends from Northern Ireland, this July Amizade is holding our first Open Group Volunteer Program in Pittsburgh! This program,English Language and Culture in Pittsburgh, brings three participants from Santarem, Brazil to Pittsburgh. While here the group will stay with local host families, take daily intensive English language classes, serve with local community organization including the Food City Fellows program at the Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh. They will also enjoy all the wonderful things Western Pennsylvania has to offer including celebrating the 4th of July with a BBQ and fireworks, taking in a Pirates game and visiting Lancaster to learn more about the Amish community.

Stay tuned to Amizade on Facebook and Twitter for updates about the group and their experience in Pittsburgh!
