Citrus Sale and Other Happenings at North Hills Community Outreach

NHCO’s Annual Citrus Sale is underway

North Hills Community Outreach is taking orders through February 3 for its annual Citrus Sale. We are seeking congregations that can take Group Orders! Boxes are grapefruit, oranges, tangerines and pears are hand-checked by volunteers and are available for pickup March 5 and 6 in St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, 1965 Ferguson Road. Purchases benefit NHCO, which served 4,099 local families in need last year.  Boxes of fruit can also be donated to NHCO’s food pantries. Run for the Hills in the marathon

North Hills Community Outreach needs at least 50 runners to commit to running the Dick’s Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Marathon May 1! Form a relay team at work or school, or run the half or full marathon, and raise funds and awareness for NHCO. Running for your favorite charity motivates you to keep training!  NHCO Accepting Spring Share Donations

North Hills Community Outreach is collecting baskets, basket covers, plastic grass, candy, granola bars, juice boxes, new small toys and new small stuffed animals for Spring Share baskets for local families in hardship. Donations are accepted through early March weekdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at NHCO, 1975 Ferguson Road, in Allison Park.  Walk for NHCO in the Highmark Walk

Join North Hills Community Outreach in the Highmark Walk for a Healthy Community May 14. When you register to walk, and /or fundraise for NHCO, 100% of the proceeds support NHCO’s programs to help local families in need. Registration opens February 1 at walkforahealthycommunity.org. NHCO offers free budgeting workshops

North Hills Community Outreach Millvale will host a free Understanding Credit Workshop, 9:30-11:30am, February 16 in 2nd floor Millvale Community Center, 416 Lincoln Ave.

This is the second in a series of Budgeting/Money Management workshops presented by Jennifer Dunn, Membership Advantage Program Relationship Manager, Fifth Third Bank. The workshops are designed to help participants: identify income, track expenses, develop a spending plan, manage cash flow, understand why and when to use credit, maintain good credit to increase a credit score and protect finances that are in place.

WorkAble provides free career consulting and employment mentoring to unemployed and underemployed job seekers in Allegheny County. Career consultant office hours in Bellevue are 1:00 – 5:00 pm, every Tuesday in NHCO offices, 1st floor, AGH-Suburban, 100 s Jackson Avenue, Bellevue. Appointments may be made by calling 412-904-5993. WorkAble is a United Way-funded partnership of North Hills Community Outreach, the Career Development Center and South Hills Interfaith Ministries.

Ask the Attorney sessions for low-income families

Free legal consultation for issues such as divorce, bankruptcy, credit issues, family matters, rent disputes and more is available for families in need at North Hills Community Outreach locations the THIRD Wednesday of each month at 7pm except December. (Please note the change of week.) The next ATA sessions are: NHCO Allison Park February 17 and NHCO Millvale March 16. Attendees MUST preregister for these sessions by contacting Harriet at hzgibbs@nhco.org or 412-408-3830.

 NHCO Volunteer Orientations

North Hills Community Outreach will host Volunteer Orientation sessions at 10 am, Thursday, February 11 in NHCO Millvale, 416 Lincoln Avenue, and 10am, Thursday, March 10 in NHCO North Boroughs, 100 S. Jackson Avenue, Bellevue.  Volunteers are needed for all sites, and needs include citrus sale help, volunteers for the US Open concessions and the Auto Show table, receptionists, drivers to transport seniors to appointments, drivers to transport pantry donations, and much more. NHCO accepting donations of organic seeds

Donations of organic seeds are now being collected for NHCO’s Rosalinda Sauro Sirianni Garden. Most needed are lettuce, beet, chard, kale, turnip, and radish seeds as well as onion sets and seed potatoes.  Heirloom varieties and well-labeled seeds from home gardens are welcomed. All produce supports NHCO’s three food pantries. Please mail or drop off at any NHCO location (visit nhco.org or call 412-487-6316 for addresses). Community Auto seeks vehicles for waiting working families!

Do you or a family member have a vehicle you don’t want anymore? Perhaps it’s not worth the cost of repairs, or it sits unused? NHCO offering Money in Your Pocket Tax Preparation

North Hills Community Outreach is once again a United Way Money in Your Pocket Tax Preparation site. Appointments are required and can be made by calling 2-1-1 starting January 15.   Income eligibility requirements:

For households with ONE PERSON,  annual income must be $25,000 or less. For households with MORE THAN ONE PERSON, annual income must be $45,000 or less.

NHCO’s Bellevue/North Boroughs site will be open for tax prep appointments on Mondays and Wednesdays, 4:30 to 7:30pm, beginning January 25.   NHCO’s Millvale site will be open for tax prep appointments on Saturdays, 9:00am to noon, beginning January 30.
