Swissvale’s Kopp Glass Gateway is Revitalizing the Neighborhood!

The Swissvale Economic Development Corporation (SEDCO) has been busy working in partnership with Swissvale Borough and MVI, Mon Valley Initiative to help restore vitality and vibrancy to a blighted corner of Swissvale.  Kopp Glass Gateway Redevelopment is a plan designed to give the entrance from Rankin into Swissvale a nice facelift.  Phase I of this two phase project of neighborhood revitalization is slated to be complete in June.  This phase includes five rehabs and one new infill project along Palmer Street, Monongahela, Park and Duquesne Avenues.  SEDCO, MVI, Allegheny County Economic Development, the Pennsylvania Housing Finance Agency and the PA Department of Community & Economic Development have made this project possible.

This project is a little different than the typical MVI project as this is the first major community redevelopment that has been geared toward ensuring that all homes are LEED Home Certified.  Additionally, this is a transit-oriented development, located along the Martin Luther King Jr. East Busway.

The Mon Valley Initiative continues to strive to meet its mission of working together to unite the communities and restore the economic vitality of the Mon Valley.  If you would like more information about MVI, please visit our website at http://www.monvalleyinitiative.com/.
