Focus On Renewal Volunteer, Recognized for His Community Service

Frank Koger, a 30+ year volunteer at Focus On Renewal (FOR) received a Jefferson Award at the Carnegie Museum of Art and Natural History. He was one of 50 individuals selected for the program administered locally by the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. This is a photo of Frank Koger volunteering at Focus On Renewal’s Father Ryan Arts Center with Joanne Lorenz, FOR board president; and Sr. Barbara Czyrnik, former associate director of Focus On Renewal

Focus On Renewal (FOR), a nonprofit social service organization located in McKees Rocks, relies heavily on volunteer support and resources of the “human” kind. As such, FOR’s 70 full-time and 55 part-time employees have been blessed by Frank Koger, a benevolent individual who volunteers more than 160 hours each month. Retired from Verizon, Frank acts as the IT support person for the agency’s 13 different programs which are separated geographically. His nonstop efforts (days, nights and weekends) are what keep FOR’s employee and client computer systems and databases functioning at full capacity. He is as dedicated as any full-time paid staff person would ever be and beyond, even responding to computer repair issues when on vacation. Frank orders all the software and hardware for the organization, configures every single computer and handles all software upgrades. Every employee knows Mr. Koger, also known as Uncle Frank, because he sets up each computer for the agency. What’s more, he researches funding opportunities and even helps employees with their home computers. This father and grandfather is energetic, enthusiastic and generous in spirit. He truly believes in the work of Focus On Renewal. He has long supported the agency in many capacities and his passion and respect for the work the agency does is immeasurable and unbeatable. Today, with times as they are, Frank is a model for dignity and chivalry. He seeks no recognition, no monetary compensation and no pat on the back.
