Prepare for Emergencies and Disasters for Clients With Special Needs

Do Your Clients Have Special Needs During an Emergency or Disaster?

If your answer is YES, you are invited to attend Ready PA, a FREE train-the-trainer workshop to help your clients, on April 14 from 9:30 – 11:00 AM at the Penn State Cooperative Extension office, 2020 Beaver Avenue, Monaca, PA.  Penn State Cooperative Extension received a grant from the PA Department of Health to reach those in rural communities and special populations to help prepare for emergencies and disasters.

What is a Special Population?

Special Populations include those who are physically challenged, mobility impaired, and socially or culturally isolated; those with mental or cognitive disorders and any medical conditions/diagnosis; those recovering from illness and surgery; and the elderly and young children.

What topics will be covered?

            1. Developing a list of special concerns.

            2. Identifying a network of people who can help during a time of need.

            3. Preparing an emergency communication plan.

            4. Developing a disaster kit for several days.

What will you receive?

As a trainer, you will receive all training materials and client materials to conduct the training at no cost to your organization and your clients.  These materials include:

            1. CD with the PowerPoint presentation

            2. Flip chart to be placed on a table during instruction, if you prefer not to use PowerPoint or have             small group instruction.

            3. Folders with a variety of materials for each participant.

What is required of you?

Along with attending the Ready PA train-the-trainer workshop, you are required to have each participant complete a simple two-question evaluation and return those to Penn State Cooperative Extension
