RSVP‘s seventh annual Senior Ms. Beaver County Pageant was a big success again this year. On June 6 at Beaver Valley Mall in Center Township, nine local women ages 55 and older competed in this year’s event.

Reannabelle Gill of Friendship Ridge (formally the Geriatric Center) in Beaver took the grand prize and was crowned Senior Ms. Beaver County 2009. Reannabelle was surrounded by her family as her name was called and the crowd roared. She wept as the sash and crown were placed on her head and shoulders. Reannabelle entered the contest because of her love of singing, and her performance of one of her favorite songs, “This is the Day that the Lord has Made”, captivated the judges.

Fleurette “Flossie” Sampson of Beaver and Lillian Brown of Beaver Falls captured second and third places, respectively. Betty Kieffer of Katera’s Cove in Wampum was awarded Senior Senior Ms. Beaver, and Linda Dull-Hartman of Aliquippa walked away with the Youngest Senior Ms. award. The Personal Care Home Resident Award went to Anne Hetzler of Cambridge Village in Beaver Falls.

Local award winning a cappella Sweet Adeline vocal group “Dynasty” entertained the crowd with their delightful four-part harmony, and Miss Pennsylvania 2008 Kendria Perry served as a charming mistress of ceremony. The 23-year-old from Pittsburgh is a graduate student at Carnegie Mellon University’s Heinz School of Public Policy and Management. Kendria is also a recipient of the 2007 Presidential Volunteer Service Award. Her academic career ambition is to complete a master’s degree in arts management.

Thanks to the generosity and hard work of the participants, their supporters and event sponsors, the 2009 Senior Ms. Beaver County Pageant raised thousands of dollars to benefit the programs and projects of the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) of Beaver County. If you are interested in this kind of fun activity and more, contact Valerie McElvy at 524 Franklin Avenue, Aliquippa, PA 15001 or call the RSVP office at (724) 378-7547.
