The Silver Ring Thing Program was created in 1995 as a response to the escalating numbers of teen pregnancies in Yuma, AZ, and was moved to Pittsburgh, PA in 2000.
The mission of this nonprofit organizaiton is to motivate, educate, support and transform generations of young people to embrace a lifestyle of Christ-centered sexual abstinence until marriage, while spreading the understanding of that message to both students and parents.
Our goal is to reach 20% of America’s youth with this faith-based abstinence message. Over 100,000 teens have committed to abstinence until marriage and wear a ring to remind them of the commitment they have made. Rings are not sold separately from the program as we want the ring to represent more than just a piece of jewelry.
What is Silver Ring Thing?
The Silver Ring Thing (SRT) is a unique organization that uses two avenues to bring the abstinence message to teens, an intense Live Event and the packaged SRT 434 Program for group studies.
Live Event
SRT’S dynamic stage performance incorporates high energy music, special effects, fast-paced videos, personal testimonies, drama and comedy all delivered in a concert-style approach with which teenagers can respond and relate. The program also conveys God’s message of forgiveness and new beginnings with an opportunity to respond and embrace a “second virginity”. Parents are also equipped with information and resources on how to support and encourage their child’s abstinence decision.
SRT 434 Packaged Program
The SRT 434 Program offers four DVD-enhanced bible study sessions on sexual decision-making facilitated by a youth pastor or leader in a group setting. This program is shaped after the energy and excitement of the live event and challenges teenagers to make and keep a commitment of abstinence until marriage. Both programs also include a 12-step follow-up program.
