NHCO Collecting School Supplies for Families in Need

North Hills Community Outreach is collecting new backpacks and school supplies for distribution to low-income children in all grades including college through July 31. Items needed include new backpacks including larger ones for older children, pencils, rulers, scissors, crayons, markers, colored pencils, notebooks and folders. Car Donations Needed

There are nearly 25 low-income families on the waiting list for a car from North Hills Community Outreach’s Community Auto program. The program is looking for vehicle donations that will help low-income individuals get to work and provide transportation for their families. Cars can be donated in any condition and donors may qualify for the maximum possible tax deduction. Call 724-443-8300 or visit www.communityauto.org for more information.

Free Computer Classes

North Hills Community Outreach offers free computer classes to help people become more comfortable using computers in their job searches. Classes are open to everyone and include Introduction to Computers, Introduction to the Internet, Internet Job Searching and Microsoft Office. The classes take place at NHCO Millvale at 416 Lincoln Ave on Wednesdays at 10 a.m. and Avalon Public Library on Thursdays at 5:45 p.m. Call 412-487-6316, option 2 for more information.

Open Volunteer Hours Slated for NHCO Garden

North Hills Community Outreach’s organic, community garden at 119 Davis Ave in Bellevue is open to volunteers of all ages from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. every Monday, Wednesday and Saturday. For more information, contact Dave at 412-487-6316, opt. 2. 

Volunteer Opportunities at NHCO

  • North Hills Community Outreach is in need of volunteer instructors for a vehicle ownership class. Contact Linda Robins at 412-487-6316, opt. 2 for more information.
  • North Hills Community Outreach will hold a one-hour orientation session for prospective volunteers on 10 a.m. on June 19 at NHCO Millvale at 416 Lincoln Ave. Contact Linda Robins at 412-487-6316, opt. 2 for more information.
  • North Hills Community Outreach is looking for a volunteer employment coach trainer that will conduct training sessions for employment coach volunteers, who help individuals develop the skills necessary to secure gainful employment by assisting with job searches, resumes, cover letters and interview prep. NHCO Legal Help

  • July 11, 7 to 9 p.m., NHCO at 1975 Ferguson Road in Allison Park – Ask the Attorney free legal consultations on noncriminal matters for income-eligible individuals. Appointments are required. Call Harriet Gibbs at 412-487-6316, opt. 2.
